"Promotion of 'Made in Albania' Products"

The event for "Made in Albania" products was held, organized by the Ministry of Finance and Economy and the General Directorate of Industrial Property, under the slogan "Protect industrial property rights through registration at DPPI."

The importance of promoting DPPI services was emphasized, which have been available online for all interested parties since July 15. For DPPI, it is very important that the application process is as simple, straightforward, and easily accessible for citizens, so that interested parties do not waste time at counters and long queues.

Two businesses and registered trademarks with DPPI, Tradita Popullore – Edlira and ONUS & VIP TIE 3D, shared with the guests their experiences in the Albanian market and the importance of registering industrial property rights.

WORK MEETING WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF DRAFTING THE NEW NATIONAL STRATEGY IN THE FIELD OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY 2021-2025

The General Director of the Directorate of Industrial Property, Mrs. Ledina Beqiraj, participated in an online meeting with representatives of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) as well as international and local experts, where she discussed the progress of the steps taken so far for drafting the new national strategy 2021-2025. This is a very important and necessary document for setting priorities and challenges faced by Albanian institutions in the respect and protection of intellectual property rights as a whole.

The General Directorate of Industrial Property coordinates the entire process with the institutions involved in this process until the finalization of this document.

The institutional interview focused on the activities and work of the DPPI over the years, the issues, priorities, and ongoing challenges that will be taken into consideration in the drafting of the new document.

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF WIPO 21-25 SEPTEMBER 2020

As part of the work of the General Assembly taking place from September 21-25 among the member countries of the World Intellectual Property Organization, an online meeting was held between the Western Balkan countries (non-member states, in the capacity of observers) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

The focus of the meeting was on institutional developments, despite the situation caused by COVID-19, and the current and future cooperation with this organization.

The General Director of Industrial Property, Ms. Ledina Beqiraj, highlighted in her speech the current developments, achievements, and challenges of the institution she leads throughout 2020.

She also expressed her gratitude to EUIPO for the technical assistance provided so far, as well as for strengthening future cooperation.

✍🏻Mr. Nezir Gashi, Director of the Industrial Property Agency, described the cooperation with the General Directorate of Industrial Property of Albania as very important. He emphasized that the exchange of experiences between these two institutions is a great contribution to the further development of the field of industrial property in both countries.
🖌After the presentations made by both parties regarding their institutional activities, the discussion focused on finding ways and modalities to strengthen the ongoing cooperation between the offices.
🤝The cooperation agreement foresees the implementation of joint activities primarily in the promotion of industrial property, as well as strengthening the national industrial property systems.
🔴The Monitoring Committee, established by representatives of both institutions for the implementation of the agreement signed in Pejë, will continuously follow the activities planned in this field.
🇽🇰After assessing the needs and drafting the action plan, the next visit will be from the counterpart delegation of Kosovo, scheduled to take place within 2020.

The Memorandum of Cooperation is signed between the General Directorate of Industrial Property and the National Chamber of Intermediaries.

The General Director of DPPI, Ms. Ledina Beqiraj, signed the Memorandum of Cooperation between the General Directorate of Industrial Property and the National Chamber of Intermediaries, represented by Ms. Drita Avdyli, in her capacity as the Chairwoman of the Chamber.

The main objective of signing this cooperation document is to identify mechanisms and modalities for disseminating information related to industrial property rights. In cooperation with intermediaries in the National Chamber of Intermediaries, the aim is to provide the necessary information to entities/businesses and/or various users of industrial property. Organizing joint activities, internships, practical training, or meetings to provide practical knowledge on industrial property issues, as well as the mutual exchange of information between the two institutions, will be the main pillars of the cooperation.

On the event of the 30th anniversary of establishment of the General Directorate of Industrial Property (DPPI), a two-days International Conference having the theme “Women in Tradition, Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship” was conducted in the Plaza Hotel Tirana with the participation of the highest rank of 3 organizations of International Intellectual Property such as the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) represented by Mr. Habip Asan, the European Patent Office (EPO) represented by deputy President Mr. Christoph Ernst and the European Union Office of Intellectual Property (EUIPO) represented by Mr. Ignacio De Medrano. Accordingly, the Swiss Embassy in Tirana represented by the Vice Ambassador Mr. Philip Arnold, the Ministry of State for Entrepreneurship represented by the Minister Mrs. Delina Ibrahimaj and the Ministry of Finance and Economy represented by its Deputy Mrs. Adela Xhemali.

General Director of DPPI, Mrs. Rovena Beqiraj, welcomed the guests, partners of the field, and contributors over the years, former managers, law enforcement institutions, representatives of higher education institutions, as well as representatives coming from the counterpart Office of Intellectual Propriety in the region and beyond borders.

In the welcoming speech, the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy, Mrs. Adela Xhemali emphasized the role of Intellectual Property as an important indicator in the development of the country’s economy.
The General Director of the World Intellectual Property Organization Mr. Daren Tang in a recording message congratulated the 30th anniversary of the foundation of DPPI and evaluated its achievements so far, considering Albania a country with progress in the field of intellectual property.
